In this series 10 Secrets to Achieve Your Dreams, we will teach you how to move beyond your comfort zone to where your potential awaits. We have all lived lives developed through a combination of nature and nurture. So why are some people more successful than others? Is it something they were innately born with? Is it who they knew? Was it pure luck? Or was it something else?
The good news is that it is never one thing, but a combination of things. The even better news is that we can all have success if we want it bad enough. I know this brings to mind deceitful opportunists that succeed on the backs of others and take all the credit, but we are referring to those who identify themselves and their value. The people who know who they are, what they want, commit to work towards it and know what they are willing to sacrifice to get it.
At this point things get extra loaded for a mother. To be a good mother, aren’t I supposed to sacrifice for my kids, not myself? I want to be the best mother I can be, so that is where I should focus all my effort, not on chasing some big dream that will never come true. I could go on, but I think you all get the point. None of these need be exclusive of the other. Kids do what you do, not what you say. Don’t you owe it to your children to live the best version of yourself, so they imitate it? You owe it to them to accomplish great things, so they can learn to live their own extraordinary lives. Good mothers inherently always make sacrifices for their children, but it does not mean you become a martyr. You deserve to reach your fullest potential because you don’t want anything less than that for your children.
“It takes a very brave person to become a mother, someone strong to raise a child, and a special person to love someone more than themselves”

You already have the building blocks. Now all you need is to learn how to use them.
The first trait that will elevate your life to the extraordinary is the ability to change your mind through behavior. We have all made big plans or New Year’s resolutions, and by day three we are back to our old habits. It leaves you feeling defeated, and you begin to think you are incapable of such things, but you could not be more wrong. Please take 10 minutes to watch this TEDx talk By Dr. Joe Dispenza. He explains the science behind making these changes. In the video, it shows neurons breaking an old pathway, and making a new pathway only by a change in behavior. The change is not permanent yet. You must continually use this pathway to strengthen it.
After you realize you can rewire your brain, you begin to understand these crazy dreams may be possible. Now we start exploring the practical implications of neural plasticity.
The first step is to modify your behavior to align with the person you want to be. If you are not living the life you want, you are probably not acting like the person you want to be. So think ahead to that person you want to be, and look at your life through their eyes. Does that person look for all the reasons they won’t achieve a goal, or do they arm themselves with all the tools they need to succeed? The choice is yours.
Now you are ready. Start rewiring your brain!
- Visualize your goals first thing in the morning before you get out of bed, and at night before you go to sleep.
- Fake it until you make it: Look at life through the lens of your extraordinary self.
- Review your long term goals and priorities daily
- Listen to your internal dialogue and start putting it in check. Stop those negative thoughts and replace them positive ones.
These behaviors will help strengthen those positive pathways and breakdown the old negative ones.
